This
lesson was aimed to improve our scanning skills when reading a text. We
received a link that redirected us to BBC news website. The task was to read an
article about a new theft that has been happening in South Africa. Apparently some
people were mugged on the street of Johannesburg and had their dreadlocks
stolen. It is quite bizarre but supposedly there is a growing market for
dreadlocks as hairstylists have found a new way of waving dreadlock into the
hair of a customer. Since this way of
styling has been quite recent, the hair saloons haven’t managed to build up
stockpiles of suitable locks. The demand
is high and some hair saloons don’t care where the locks come from. Therefore
some thieves are willing mug people of their locks. I think that it must
absolutely terrible experience being mugged of something as personal as
anyone’s hair…..
After
reading this article we were given questions that we needed to answer and then
send them to our tutor. It was an interesting article and good to further
improve an understanding of English.
