Writing essays

The IELTS preparation lesson targeted writing
essays in the IELTS exams. Kori explained to us what is acceptable and what
isn’t. First of all writing should be
readable, an examinee should cover all the points given, and shouldn’t use a personal
language reference or informal phrasal verbs.
For example: Instead of….
In all the offices I’ve seen, it can sometimes seem that for every hour
saved by computers, at least another is wasted in sending frivolous emails and
in trying to resolve the latest set of problems caused by computers breaking down.
Should be…..
In an office environment, it can sometimes seem that for every hour
saved by computers; at least another is wasted in sending frivolous emails and
in trying to resolve the latest set of problems cause by a system malfunction.
We talked about an example of an essay we
received in the notecard and tried to find solutions to phrases, sentences and
grammatical mistakes in the text as above.
At the end
of the lesson we discussed questions like:
Do you think computers help society?
Do you think computers are bad for health?
How do you think computers have changed the
world?
We agreed on
the fact that computers have a huge impact on lives but shouldn’t be
overused.
