Conversation lesson: An English Humour
Students: Zein, Vintageandretro, Duruk, UTKU
Huriccane, Tahir, Enes, Burak (Asia, Europe)
Teacher: Lowri Mills (USA)
There are many kinds of humour. Every culture
has their own humour and it can vary a lot. One kind of humour are riddles
(a play on words – it’s a question that describes something in a confusing
way…..the answer is usually funny)
Lowri gave us riddles to read and guess. We
each had one riddle to crack (to resolve the riddle).
Here are some examples:
Q: If you took 3 apples from a
basket that held 12 apples, how many apples would you have?
[12:27] Zein: 3
What has a neck but no head?
Bottle
What five-letter word becomes
shorter when you add two letters to it? Short – shorter
Amongst other kind of humour belong tongue
twisters (it’s a word or a sentence that can be difficult to say, especially
when repeated)
We took turns to read various twisters and
had lots of fun especially when completely something else came out of our
mouths.
She sells seashells on the
seashore.
Flash message. Flash message.
Mix a box of mixed biscuits with a boxed
biscuit mixer.
A proper copper coffee pot.
I saw Esau sitting on a seesaw.
Esau, he saw me.
Toy boat.Toy boat.Toy boat.
Lovely lemon liniment.
Six thick thistle sticks. Six
thick thistles stick.
Good blood, bad blood.
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
A peck of pickled peppers Peter
Piper picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled
peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled
peppers Peter Piper picked?
And
here is one Turkish one from Burak…)))
[12:36] Burak58 Lastchance: Kartalkalkar dal
sarkar, dal sarkarkartalkalkar :D
There are other kinds of humour as you will
see in these video clips.
Which video is the funniest?
[12:54] Burak58 Lastchance: First video 2.25
[12:55] Burak58 Lastchance: That baby is
really funny :D
[12:55] Burak58 Lastchance: I can’t stop
laughing….
[12:55] Burak58 Lastchance: :D
There is much more to explore in terms of
humour. Lowri promised to bring us other examples. That sounds great.
