Preparation for TOEFL

Lekce angličtiny ve virtuálním prostředí Languagelab

Speaking Lesson: TOEFL  lesson

Teacher: Izabeel Kophee (USA)
Students: Burak Hurricane, Bilal Deluxe, Juan Hurricane, Rene Lyric (Asia, Europe)

This was a speaking lesson, a preparation for TOEFL exam. We got a question from Izzy each and we had 15 seconds to think of what we are going to say. Then we had to talk about the topic for 45 seconds.
It didn’t have to be truth at all. It could have been a little white lie – a lie that doesn’t hurt anyone. Izzy’s first question was addressed to me;
What person who is alive today would you most like to meet?
Use reasons and details to support your response.
I started talking about Barack Obama. I still don’t have an idea why i chose him, but he was the first person alive that popped into my mind.
Next was Bilal and he talked about his dream house. I think this was a very nice topic.
What does your dream house look like? Use details to support your response.
He was talking about a modern house with big windows that would let a lot of light in the house.
Izzy asked Burak the next, very obvious question. She called it a META question – it’s a concept or idea that covers many things
Why are you preparing to take the TOEFL test? Use reasons to support your response.
He wants to study the university and improve his English, and study about studies.....
Rene got a very nice question. We all loved her answer....)))
What are the characteristics of a good neighbour? Use reasons and details to support your response.
To take care of other neighbours, to clean the house, be nice to neighbours, to cut the grass in the garden and make a cake for others.

After this we had one more little exercise. We got all the same question and had to answer it.
Is it better to learn about the news from newspapers or from television? Use reasons to support your response.
We discussed it a bit but didn’t come to a definite answer. There are lots of media to choose from and TV or the newspaper aren’t the only possible source of information in today’s world.
